There can be multiple reasons for this problem. However, the majority of times the culprit is a type of virus that disrupts how the internet connection works in your system.  Other, the system isn’t compatible with the newly installed software, and as a result, the internet connection is disrupted.

Whatever the initial cause may be, the core reason behind this kind of interference disturbance

is in the socket settings of the operating system. It directly affects the TCP/IP stack in the OS. Experts believe that these kinds of disturbances don’t occur on their own.

Usually, these problems happen when malware tries to change the socket setting or the TCP/IP function. However, as we have discussed before, newly installed programs can also disrupt these settings when they come into contact with the system.

People often see these problems arise in their system after they install new programs that communicate with the internet directly. It’s not even about foreign programs; Window’s own functions can create confusion between protocols and interfere with the internet service.

Entities within the Windows’ Winsock catalog (referred to as Layered Service Providers) are actually .DLL files that inject themselves into the TCP/IP stack. The real job of these .DLL files is to organize the communication flow between different programs that try to access the internet. These files also monitor how the Internet connects back to these applications.

Therefore, it’s not uncommon for these .DLL files to malfunction and cause problems with your internet connection. Regardless of what the cause is, it’s safer to have your system checked for malware once you see this error on your system.

Step #2

After the command prompt opens, you will need to type in a few commands to troubleshoot this internal problem. Type the following commands one by one in the order they have been written here. Also, hit Enter once you type in a single command and make sure that you don’t make any typing mistakes while you type these commands.

  • ipconfig /release
  • ipconfig /all
  • ipconfig /flushdns
  • ipconfig /renew
  • netsh int ip set dns
  • netsh winsock reset

Note: These steps will help resolve the error if it was caused by the netsh Winsock entities in your OS. However, you’ll need administrator privileges to carry out steps in your device.

Step #3

After you have gone through the procedure of subsequently entering commands in the CMD, restart your computer. Check whether the internet has started working or not. If the problem persists, try out other methods in this article to restart your internet connection.

Option 2: Change the DNS Address

Step #1

To proceed with this method, just right-click the network connection icon (pic) on the bottom right corner of your screen. After that, choose the Open Network and Sharing Center to access your internet settings.

Step #2

Proceed to the Change Adapter Settings on the left-hand side of the window pane.

Step #3

In the Network Adapter Settings, see which internet connection is active. After that, right-click on that connection and choose the Properties option.

Step #5

Consequently, you will see Internet Protocol Version 4 Properties. Just choose the “Use the following DNS server addresses” instead of the “Obtain DNS server address automatically.

After that, fill in the DNS addresses to change your previous DNS server address. For instance, you can type in the following addresses in both Preferred DNS Server and Alternate DNS Server options.

  • Preferred DNS server: 208.67.222.222
  • Alternate DNS server: 208.67.220.220
